Q. CAN YOU EXPLAIN HOW THE DIFFERENT TEAM STRUCTURES WORK?
A. OF COURSE!
The 12-person teams will rent two vans. The first six runners in van (OR SUPPORT VEHICLE) one, second six in van two. Van one will show up at the starting line at their designated start time where they will see their first runner off on Leg 1. Van one will then head to Exchange Point 1, where runner number one will hand the slap bracelet off to runner number two. This process is repeated until the sixth runner hands off to runner number seven in Van 2.
At this point Van 1 runners take a break to rest, eat and stretch while Van 2 folks are repeating the same process for legs 7 through 12, and so on… After Van 1 hands off to Van 2 for the final time, Van 1 will then head to the finish line and get ready to welcome the final runner and be ready to cross the finish line together as a team.
We ask that all teams be able to complete the course at an average pace of 10 minutes per mile. If someone on the team is slower, it's probably okay because someone will be faster...as long as it averages out. Registrants will enter their most recent 10k times which will be used to estimate their start times. Teams will start in waves based on pace, the slower teams will start the earliest and the fastest teams will be the last ones to start.
The "ULTRA" teams (ULTRA Category is reserved for teams of 6 or less) will run the entire course but will only use one support vehicle. The runners remain consistently on the road and the support vehicle is never “off duty.” This is a much more challenging way to run the race, not only because each runner has to run twice the distance, but because all of the resting and refueling takes place while on the road. This option is only recommended for very experienced runners who are able to consistently average an 8.5 to 10 minute pace or faster over the longer distance. If you are planning to run with a team of less than six, or to attempt the course SOLO, please let us know so we can work with you to make your experience the best it can be and to answer any further questions you may have. For further information or inquiries, email us at info@PonderosaPineRelay.com.
The “SPRINT” Teams will be made up of six people and will cover a shorter distance than a regular team. The start for the Sprint Teams will be in McCall, Idaho instead of in Weiser. Sprint teams will run a total of 12 legs, giving each runner 2 legs averaging 5 miles in distance (some are longer, some are shorter.) Sprint teams will not be running overnight. They will start in waves in the early morning and will finish in Cascade at the same time as other runners. We ask that SPRINT teams be able to complete the course at an average page of 10 minutes per mile.
Q. HOW DOES THE “HIRE-A-VOLUNTEER” PROGRAM WORK?
A. GREAT QUESTION! WE'RE GLAD YOU ASKED!
Because of the logistics of a race like this and the reliance on the amazing volunteers to make it happen, all teams are required to provide two volunteers as part of their registration. As an alternative to providing someone to volunteer, teams are welcome (and encouraged) to hire their volunteers instead for $100.00 per volunteer. 100% of the proceeds from the Hire-A-Volunteer program will go to local charities and non-profit organizations.
Q. CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE MORE ABOUT RUNNING ON THE WEISER RIVER TRAIL?
A. YES!
We are excited to be holding part of this relay on the beautiful and unique Weiser River Trail. The Friends of the Weiser River Trail are a non-profit organization who have taken it upon themselves to convert 85 miles of old railroad tracks to recreational trails. The WRT is the longest rails-to-trails in Idaho and provides the opportunity to run along the Weiser River through breathtaking scenery.
Q. WE ARE NOT FROM THE AREA. CAN YOU RECOMMEND PLACES FOR US TO STAY?
A. YES!
We have partnered with a few great places to get the best possible deals on lodging. Please visit our LODGING page.
